Taking away the Swiss Beach

I already talked about the Swiss Beach back in May. Back then I was looking for a Swiss Bitch but didn’t find one. This time I saw some but I wasn’t interested. I was more interested in the Swiss Beach deck chairs.

The Swiss Beach deck chair take away

As the Swiss Beach was a project during the Euro 2008 and the Euro is over by now, the Strandbar Herrmann is changing back their deck chairs to the regular ones. So today, the Swiss Beach was selling their deck chairs for the benefit of a charity project. To get a Swiss Beach deck chair, you had to donate at least 10 Euro to the charity project of Ms. Ute Bock who is helping fugitives.

The place was crowded with people who didn’t want to miss the opportunity to get an official souvenir of the Swiss Beach. My sweetheart and I managed to get four deck chairs nevertheless. We took four chairs because there were different designs. One for each Swiss Euro 2008 town. We got Zurich, Basel, Geneva and Bern.

Exclusive Viewing at the Burgtheater

Even though I’m not a big soccer fan I am watching a lot of matches of the Euro 2008 just because it’s in Austria and some of the games are in Vienna. We watched the match Turkey vs Croatia on a huge (!) Full HD screen at the Burgtheater. Telekom Austria invited some members of the Austrian Journalists Club to watch the match there during an “Exclusive Viewing”. It’s called “exclusive” because you were only able to get there with a personal invitation. I got one as a member of the AJC.

We had our very own box in the theater and a very nice waiter who brought anything we wanted. The really great thing was that EVERYTHING was free. Free drinks (nonalcoholic and alcoholic) and a delicious free buffet.

It was a really great evening and a very exciting match at the end. Turkey won the penalty shoot-out.

Austria vs Germany

As I told you before: It’s soccer time here in Austria. It’s the Euro 2008. Today Austria played against Germany. And we lost again (0:1). Damn it! Whatever, life goes on. The qualification for the World Soccer Cup starts in a few weeks and Austria will definitely qualify for the tournament. Maybe we’ll be world champions in two years …

My sweetheart, me, myself and I went to the Rathausplatz in the center of Vienna. There’s a special soccer-fanzone. Everyone there was painted and dressed in the colors of either Austria or Germany.

This is Sonia, a really nice girl from Spain (as she told me later) who we painted in the colors of Austria. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your team on Sunday when they are playing against Italy. Viva l’España!

Swiss Beach vs Strandbar Herrmann

The good old Strandbar Herrmann was renamed to Swiss Beach because of the Euro 2008. EVERYTHING changes because of this f***in’ Euro. Soccer, what is it good for anyway? The biggest problem is that everything’s getting more expensive.

I think I wouldn’t care if it wasn’t the beer …
